Community Education Program

Empowering Adults against Violence in Elementary School Age Children – A project funded by Partnership 2000 – Jewish Agency for Israel

The project is a series of workshops on topics related to parenting children with learning/developmental challenges and behavioral issues which, if left unaddressed, can often lead to violence. Each session is facilitated by mental health and other relevant professionals.

Sessions are held in local community centers in Bet Shemesh and Ramat Beit Shemesh and are open to the entire community.

Parents learn about learning disabilities, ADHD and ODD and how these disorders may affect their children’s behavior if left unattended.

Our goals are to:
  • Increase awareness of violence prevention;
  • Target and identify children with challenges (specifically those with learning disabilities, ADD/ODD) that may be on the road to violent behavior.
  • Educate adults (parents, teachers, mentors, school staff) about these challenges and teach methods to assist in reducing the incidences of violence in our geographic area.
  • Change the behavior of these children by empowering adults involved in their lives

Target Population

  • Parents and teachers/counselors of elementary school children with learning disabilities, ADHD and ODD (oppositional defiance disorder)
  • School staff and other adults involved in the lives of elementary school aged children.
