Encouraging teens to give tzedakah to help those less fortunate
Mazal tov, you are approaching your bar/bat mitzvah. Everyone is so excited and you no doubt must be thinking of the great gifts coming your way. Take a minute to think of those less fortunate, those who don't enjoy the comforts we are all blessed with.
Ligdol v'Lifroach Child and Family Services deals with many children and families in need each day – quietly, not publicizing all the desperate cases who need our help and indeed receive it on a daily, monthly, yearly basis.
You can make a difference too. Becoming bar/batmitzvah means it's time to take on some responsibility. By you committing to give a percentage of your monetary gifts to LVL you are taking part in the mitzvah of tzedakah.
Perhaps you or a sibling have used the services of Mercaz Rakefet Child Development Center, perhaps you know someone who has been to "gan safa (language preschool) to receive help for language development delays. There are many ways LVL assists the general Bet Shemesh/Ramat Bet Shemesh community – most of our programs we publicize, but like any chessed organization, not all our clients want everyone to know they can't afford to pay for therapy for their child.
Here's the deal:
This year we plan to raise funds to open the first Toy Library and Developmental Playroom in Bet Shemesh. This will allow families to use the library for borrowing suitable toys for their kids in therapy at Mercaz Rakefet. Some kids need help to know how to play games and use toys and we will have a trained person to show them how to use the toys before they take it home. This way they can develop the skills they are learning in therapy sessions while they are at home and allowing them to progress so much more
Suggested projects:
|
| 1000 + |
Gold building block for Toy library and developmental playroom to help purchase computer games and furniture for the new facility.
Sponsor a child – therapy assistance for children known to us or referred through chessed organizations and the welfare department in Bet Shemesh. Many of these children would otherwise fall through the cracks, while slowly failing in school without the correct intervention such as:
- 1,800 NIS psychological evaluation
- 1,200 NIS didactic evaluation
|
| 500 + |
- 750 NIS a month’s psychological treatment
- Silver building block for the Toy Library to computer games and furniture for the new facility
|
| 200+ |
- 300 NIS a month of remedial teaching
- Bronze building block for the Toy Library to purchase games, computer games, furniture for the new facility.
- Books for the Mercaz Rakefet library
|
| Up to 150 shekels |
Donate a game or puzzle to be added to our Toy Library. Contact us for ideas.
Each participant will be presented with a certificate recognizing their donation.
Those who give a percentage of their gift money toward the toy library can see the establishment of a long term project in the making. Building blocks of contributions of 250 shekels will recognize their contribution.
Options to consider:
Ask family and friends to give to LVL in lieu of gifts and let them know what project you are aiming to raise money toward. e.g. toy Library or sponsoring a child in therapy.
Friends or cousins could give together. If there is a couple of friend/family celebrations at around the same time they can donate toward the same cause making a more significant contribution.
Team up with overseas relatives – if you are having a simcha at a similar time to family overseas – get together and donate as a team!
Building relationships
