Ligdol VLifroach works together with the local Department of Education of the Beit Shemesh Municipality evaluating youth classified "at risk" to help pinpoint difficulties and assist them to complete their "bagrut" (matriculation).
We evaluate approximately 40 teenagers a year using psycho-educational testing. This involves a one-on-one assessment and is recommended where there are questions about the source of a child's problem and/or the most appropriate means of intervention.
Depending on the individual concerns and needs of the student, our educational psychologist administers tests of intelligence, achievement, cognitive processing, and/or social and emotional development.
Target Population
High school students (ages 13-18) who are at risk of dropping out of the education system. The youth are referred through their teacher/counselor and/or social worker/welfare officer.
The tests help us to diagnose:
Cognitive strengths and weaknesses, as well as specific learning disabilities or Attention Deficit-hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and emotional problems.
Parents share in a minimal part of the fees with the municipality heavily subsidizing the costs. LVL provides a special discounted fee as our commitment to providing assistance regardless of their ability to pay.
The following is the typical assessment process:
Step 1: Interview with the parents of the child.
Step 2: Testing
Psycho-educational assessment evaluates the following:
- General intelligence
- Memory
- Language processing
- Visual-perceptual skills
- Level of academic achievement
- Visual-auditory learning
- Attention and concentration
- Emotional elements
Step 3: Scoring
Using a scoring system we weigh these results together with all the other information gathered.
Step 4: Sharing the Results
In a meeting with our psychologist, the parents and teacher, an intervention plan is developed, typically incorporating both home and school interventions.
Step 5: The Report
The psychological report helps parents and teachers understand the needs of their child/student and can gain them valuable assistance in school and bagrut exams based on the findings.
