Therapy Assistance Program
Giving a child in need the chance to succeed

Due to the demographics of our area, many families are not able to pay for their child's therapy. Our fund for families with limited financial resources enables approximately 40 children a month to receive vital help – this could be physical, occupational or speech therapy, and many times it is emotional counseling therapy. We do this so discretely that even the therapist is unaware of the subsidies provided to their patients. Unfortunately, we have to turn away children because of lack of funds.

There is a marked increase in the demand for emotional counseling and therapy for children, however many families in our city are unable to give their children this vital assistance as the costs are largely seen as "extras" over and above providing the basics to the family. We know that if these children's issues are left unaddressed, irreparable damage can occur in their family relationships, social and school environment making it difficult to succeed and ultimately finish their education.

To date we have been able to offer limited assistance to children as we deal with other areas of their development such as occupational, speech and/or physiotherapies. However, in many cases, their emotional wellbeing is a barrier to their overall progress. Emotional issues in children need to be dealt with promptly to avoid developing into greater adolescent behavioral issues.

Therapy is subsidized requiring a symbolic contribution from the family to show their commitment to the process.

We have a long list of children currently waiting for assessment by our allocations committee. As we receive funds throughout the year, from private donors or foundations, we allocate them accordingly and start therapy immediately.
